ANNE-JULIE CARON
Canadian marimbist Anne-Julie Caron has made her mark on the world musical scene with her sensitivity, depth, and wide spectrum of tonal colors. Recognized as a soloist and chamber musician, she has been noticed by the Argentinean composer Guillo Espel as “one of his favorite marimbists in all the world.” The Vancouver Sun wrote: “Anne-Julie Caron performed with a talent reminiscent of Evelyn Glennie”.
She has won the 2007 Opus Prize “Discovery of the year”, the 2nd Prize at the 2006 International Marimba Competition in Linz, Austria, and first prize at two of the most prestigious Canadian competitions: the 2005 Montreal Symphony Standard Life Competition and the 2004 Prix d’Europe.
Ms. Caron will be appearing in solo performances throughout Canada during the 2010 -2011 season with a concert tour planned in the Maritimes as well as a recital in Whitehorse, Yukon and concerto performances with the Montreal, Québec and the Sherbrooke Symphony Orchestras. Ms. Caron will also be active internationally, having received invitations to perform at the Zeltsman Marimba Festival (Wisconsin, U.S.A.) and the PerKumania Percussion Festival (Paris, France) where she will present a marimba clinic and perform in concert with Emmanuel Séjourné.
MARC DJOKIC
Critically acclaimed violinist Marc Djokic began his violin studies at the age of six with his father, violinist Philippe Djokic. He completed his undergraduate studies at the New England Conservatory as a scholarship student of Donald Weilerstein. Marc currently resides in Montreal.
Marc has been the recipient of several awards and scholarships including the Kiwanis Festival of Music Rose Bowl Prize, several Nova Scotia Talent Trust Awards. As the first winner of the Royal Bank of Canada's Award for Musical Excellence, Marc performed on the 2000 Debut Atlantic Series, recorded for CBC's "All the Best". In December 2000, he was presented with the Governor General's Millennium Award by the Honourable Lieutenant Governor, Myra Freeman, at Government House. In 2002, he was selected by the Nova Scotia Talent Trust to receive the prestigious Raymond Simpson Award, and in 2003 was awarded the Lieutenant Governor's Award by the Talent Trust. Marc recently received a 2009 Opus Prix Award for a live performance at Concerts aux iles du Bic in Quebec.
Marc has appeared in concert at many concert series and music festivals such as Music Masters Course in Kazusa (Japan 2001&02), the 2003 Atlantic Scene Festival (Ottawa), the New Brunswick Summer Music Festival, the Indian River Music Festival, the St. Cecilia Concert Series, Clear Lake Chamber Music Festival, Park City Music Festival (Utah), Concerts aux iles du Bic, Montreal Chamber Music Festival, and numerous appearances at the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival. Marc was also a featured artist in the Bravo! Television Series, “The Classical Now”. His solo appearances with Symphony Orchestras include The Nova Scotia Youth Orchestra, New Brunswick Youth Orchestra, Symphony Nova Scotia, Symphony NewBrunswick, PEI Symphony, Nova Symphonia and The Niagara Symphony. Marc has toured Canada throughout the Atlantic Provinces, British Columbia, and will embark on a Jeunesses Musicales tour of Quebec and the Atlantic provinces in 2010/'11 with pianist, Julien LeBlanc.
